Children and Television

These days, it is a common sight to see children sitting in front of a television all day long. The majority of them even spend more than five hours which is far more than their school time. However, there are concerns about whether watching television will bring benefits or drawbacks for their life. In this essay I will cover both views and try to draw some conclusions.

Let us start by looking at the advantages of watching television for children. Children who often watch television probably gain more knowledge than they who do not. Moreover, television is well known as media to spread the global information.

Another benefit is that children who watch the television can be inspired by people on television. For instance, a child has a dream to be a soldier right after watching cool army on television. However, it really depends on the program whether they are good or not. Unless all television programs inspire the good deeds, parent role is vital.

Turning to the other side of the arguments, television have certainly caused some health issues. Beside obesity which is caused by lesser activity on children because of TV distraction, one of the most common example is eyes problem. Children who watch television in a long period of time tend to have problem in their far sight-seeing. This kind of problem will certainly limit children dreams. They will not be able to be a pilot, soldiers, or others who need great physical performance.

Having looked at the both sides, television brings some positives and negatives. Good programs in television will bring good effects to children, but the period of watching should be minimalized to prevent health issue. In my view, parent’s role is essential in children and television case.
